MoMA Teens Online

Are any of you 13-17? If so, consider this online class, "A Tale of Three Cities: London, Chicago, and New York's Art Scenes Exposed!" It begins November 4, and it's free.

Yoko Ono at MoMA

While I never thought of Yoko Ono as "the woman who broke up the Beatles," I must admit that I only thought of her as John Lennon's wife. That was silly of me, because a) no person's identity should be limited to their spouse, and b) she's an accomplished artist.

Her show to MoMA will (hopefully) help to break the limiting label. You can read this synopsis of her career to help not make the same mistake so many of us have made.

Wikipedia activism

For International Women's Day last weekend, about 200 people showed up at MoMA and added women artists to Wikipedia. Hyperallergic has a great article on the event.

Art Lab

I downloaded and tried out the new iPad app from MoMA, called Art Lab.  It's an easy-to use painting app with a quick tutorial. It's made for kids, but seems great for anyone who wants to doodle and doesn't want to get bogged down with all the options and intricacies of a more professional painting app.

But the really cool stuff is when you tap on the "Activities" button. It's got six activities: Create a sound composition, create a chance collage, draw with scissors, create a line design, create an "exquisite corpse," and create a shape poem. These are the things that will keep you busy, no matter your age, for quite a while.

Cindy Sherman at MoMA

Depressed that you can't make it Fort Worth for the amazing Caravaggio exhibit? Erase those blues by going to New York to see a Cindy Sherman retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art. It runs from February 26 to June 11. Over 180 photos, almost all of them of the same person!
