Follow-up on the Fourth Plinth
Here is a slideshow featuring the statue officially unveiled today as well as all the past works from the project.
The Fourth Plinth
If you're not already familiar with the Fourth Plinth Project: have a quick look at this and this.
Ok, good. Now: the newest fourth plinth work is about to be unveiled, a statue of a boy on a toy horse. Check the news in a week or so to read reactions and reviews.
I really love this guy
Like a lot of Americans, I first heard about Antony Gormley when he orchestrated the "Fourth Plinth" performance/stunt/insanity. And then he got a lot of New Yorkers upset.
And now he's taken over The Hermitage in St. Petersburg. Taken over. He had all the work from one gallery removed and 85% from another. He had floors raised and moved. He rearranged and changed and made it a completely new space, which is fun because The Hermitage is one of the most imposing spaces around.
What's next for Gormely? I can't wait.
Another view of the Fourth Plinth
The Guardian's Jonathan Jones points out something that we wouldn't notice: you can't really see the Plinthers very well if you're actually at the plinth. I find the fact that he considers the web-cam portion of the project ancillary and so easily dismissed surprising.
Fourth Plinth Project
I forgot what a plinth is and had to look it up, but this is a crazy-beautiful idea: peformers of all types and genres will be atop a plinth in Trafalgar Square, one at a time, until October 14. Someone will be up there 24 hours a day. There's also 24-hour live web coverage. I'll be following this. Here is a better explanation.
